What Should A Bystander Do?
If you believe someone is having a stroke – if he or she suddenly loses the ability to speak, or move an arm or leg on one side, or experiences facial paralysis on one side – call 911 immediately.

Stroke is a medical emergency and you need to call 911. A Stroke can injure the brain like a heart attack can injure the heart.

What Can I Do?

  • Eat foods low in fat and cholesterol.
  • Lose weight if you are overweight.
  • Exercise regularly.
  • Lower your blood pressure if it is high.
  • Stop Smoking.
  • Try to reduce stress in your life.
  • Lower your blood sugar if it is high.
  • Lower your Sodium intake in your diet.
  • If you have diabetes, see your doctor regularly and follow all diet and medication instructions.
